Code of Ethics

I updated my personal code of ethics from a previous class with this same instructor to include language about learning.

As an administrator and educator I understand that there will be times in my career when ethical dilemmas might occur.  As an administrator, I am bound by the mission and governing structure of my institution.  As an educator, I am driven by the needs of the students I serve.  Although professionally I am bound by policy, procedure and practice, as a human being I am also bound by my own moral obligation.

Therefore, I promise the following, to the best of my ability, as my personal and professional code of ethics...

I promise to be Honest
To consistently seek out and speak the truth; to be true to my word.  To exercise transparency and strive for clarity.  To share my thoughts and feelings in a way that is productive, ethical, and kind.

I promise to be Respectful
To value self, others, property and diversity.  To strive my hardest to learn about people and cultures.  To be mindful of words that could be misunderstood.

I promise to be Responsible
To be accountable for my actions towards myself and others.  To be true to my word.
I promise to be Compassionate
To show care and kindness for others by helping those who are in need.  To exercise empathy.  To pay attention and to listen.

I promise to be Just and Fair
To adhere to the rules and policies of the college. To consider the perspective of others and demonstrate fairness.  To treat people equally and make decisions without favoritism or prejudice.  To be mindful of each others strengths.

I promise to be Industrious
To realize the intrinsic and extrinsic rewards of putting forth efforts to achieve personal goals.  To be curious and to thoroughly consider all options to discover the best solution.  To be productive and not waste time.  To maximize my efforts every day.

I promise to Learn
To seek out new technologies.  To learn new philosophies and systems.  To encourage the professional development of my students and colleagues.

I promise to Inspire
To lead others through times of challenge.  To prepare others for change. To be kind and to focus on positivity. To earn trust.  To be someone’s voice.

I promise to play to my Strengths
To be curious and gather information (input).  To arrange my syllabus and schedule to optimize productivity (arranger). To care about and encourage my students and team (relator). To show others an optimistic point of view (positivity). To utilize all of my strengths, and the strengths of my students and team, to achieve the greatest success. (maximizer).
